Global Seafarers Union of India (GSUI)
Registered Labour Union | Established on 4th March 2022
⚓ Who We Are
The Global Seafarers Union of India (GSUI) is a registered labour union formed with the goal of uplifting, protecting, and empowering Indian seafarers, while also contributing to the holistic development of the maritime industry. Registered under the Labour Union Act on 4th March 2022, GSUI functions as a national-level organization working to balance the rights of workers and the responsibilities of employers in the shipping and port sectors.
Unlike conventional unions, GSUI believes in collaborative change, working not just for seafarers, but also with shipping companies, training institutes, and government agencies to ensure a healthy, equitable, and forward-looking maritime ecosystem.
🌍 Our Vision
To be the leading voice for seafarers, shipping companies, and maritime authorities, fostering a maritime ecosystem rooted in justice, development, and shared responsibility — locally, nationally, and globally.
🎯 Our Mission
- To safeguard the rights and welfare of Indian seafarers across domestic and international waters
- To collaborate with companies to improve working conditions, contracts, welfare programs, and grievance redressal mechanisms
- To partner with government agencies in shaping and refining policies that support sustainable maritime growth and fair labour practices
- To raise public awareness about the contribution and challenges faced by maritime workers
- To build solidarity across the seafaring community while promoting transparency, safety, and dignity
🤝 Our Approach: Partnership for Progress
GSUI positions itself as a bridge between seafarers, employers, and the government — advocating for policies and practices that promote mutual respect, professional dignity, and systemic reforms. We believe that true industry progress comes from shared dialogue, not division.
We are actively engaged in:
- Policy recommendation to government bodies such as DG Shipping, Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, and Labour Departments
- Working group participation for seafarer welfare schemes and shipping reform
- Liaison with port authorities, maritime training institutes, and CSR bodies
